AWAKENING
The people I’ve tried to make love with, haunt my virtual
reality dreams that are as fragile as a crashed hard drive or pulled plug. My
dreams haunt my dreams. Everything I have ever seen or imagined or done,
invisibly haunt my super-reality dreams.
I am not a bad man, yet I am a troubled man, troubled by
what could have been, what was, what should have been, what can never be. If my
dreams trouble someone as guiltless and meaningless as me, what must the dreams
of Adolf, Idi, Mao, George W, and Pius XII have been? Not to mention good men
like Bill, Obama, and Indira. What was in the dreams of Chopin, A.S. Neill, and
Groucho as they lay dying?
How can it be that 5000 years of human majesty and shame can
absolutely vanish in a millisecond explosion, along with all the cute bunnies,
redwoods, hummingbirds, crocodiles, roses, manatees, and mosquitoes we’ve
killed.
My list of tragedies are endless and soothing, yet fill only
a page of the Great Unabridged Dictionary of things known, experienced, not
known, imagined, unimagined, and distorted.

VETERANS' HOUSING DEMOLISHED
First, young men are forced by the Warlord to fight the
People's Army (which later became the Madman's Guards, then the Oligarchy's
Enforcers). Then, the survivors and maimed young men are given concrete bunkers
to temporarily live in for 3 generations. Now the apolitical addicted Money
Launderers evict them to die, destroying their aging communities, and
sentencing their neighbors to invisible extinction.....Life is certainly not
fair, at all, at all.

LANTERN FESTIVAL
I TOOK THE TRAIN
TO PINGXI…..The first time I sent a lantern to heaven to honor my mentor, film
director Kurosawa Akira…..The second time I thanked Taiwan for the peacefulness
of Pingxi, Tamsui, Hsimenting, Taipei 101, the Non-Violent Transfer from a
50-Year Old Dictatorship to Democracy, Hands Across Taiwan, and the Million-Person
Sit-In, instead of Hajj, the Ganges, and soccer riots,….The third time I prayed
that Taiwan would have a visionary, humanistic, effective President who would
not sell Taiwan to China, developers, bankers, or controlled media corporations…..

LOVE AND PAIN
The loss
of love, fast or slow, (by
death-boredom-horniness-betrayal-bitterness-blame-fighting-hatred), is the most
painful thing in life, other than physical torture. It happens to almost
everyone, often several times. Yet without experiencing such pain, we can never
love, and that is much worse.
