EVERY international film director, actor, producer,
and
critic must sign a strong petition, and also fully use the media to demand
that
Jafar Panahi and Muhammad Rasoulof be released from prison and from Iran,
immediately. How can we tolerate this,
just writing nasty internet comments, moaning about injustice in the world, and getting excited by the Oscars, Globes, Emmys, Tonys, film festivals and grosses?! On both humanistic and art levels, we cannot passively allow Panahi and Rasoulof to suffer for six years, and have Panahi's future contributions to life destroyed. If for no other reason than this man gave us a magnificent gift of "The White Balloon", we artists, filmmakers, audiences, and fellow human beings, cannot let this evil decision pass us by silently....Will someone successful and famous go through their priceless address book to start an Industry and public petition??? This is the very minimum anyone who has ever cared about cinema can do.
