Play Review: "ICELAND"


ICELAND: A STATE OF HEART

冰島:心的國度

Iceland and Taiwan are both islands.  Iceland has volcanoes and melting ice.  Taiwan has corruption, pollution, volatile politics on the TV Yuan, and China.  Iceland thought it was safebecause it floated away as far north as possible from the insanity of Europe.  Taiwan thought it was safe because America passionately offers its stallion youth to defend democracy and oil around the world.and China.  
冰島和台灣都是島嶼。冰島有火山和融冰的威脅;台灣則要面對貪污腐化、環境污染、立法院搬演的火爆政治秀以及兩岸問題。冰島自認安全,因為它已儘可能飄流北方,遠離荒唐的歐洲;台灣亦自認安全,因為美國用種馬般的精力,積極捍衛全球的民主和石油。


Nevertheless, the hellish greed of Western capitalism has doomed Iceland, driving it back into the Viking era.  While the hellish greed of Eastern capitalism is eating away at Taiwan like an acidic virus, driving it into Black Widow Momma’s brutal spider arms.
無奈,貪得無饜的西方資本主義卻詛咒冰島衰亡,把它拽回到維京時期。同時,需索無度的西方資本主義也像病毒蠶食著台灣,把它擰回黑寡婦蜘蛛兇殘的臂膀裡。

The courage and warmth of the Iceland and Taiwan peoples will, of course, survive any attempts at economic and cultural castration. While multi-cultural and now bankrupt American people will survive the Fall of the Holy American Empire.
不管是誰企圖閹割其經濟和文化,冰島和台灣人民絕對會憑著勇氣和溫情挺過來。就像源自不同文化、同樣面臨破產的美國人民,也會從「神聖美麗堅帝國的衰敗」中存活下來。

What has this diatribe to do with Chen Chien-Cheng (Alan)’s new play?  Iceland is a hotel, a painting, a play, a state of the heart. Iceland is in opposition to passion. Iceland is what fear, possessiveness, “practicality”, “logic”, and “social responsibility” create in people who yearn for warmth, intimacy, and simple human kindness.
這種批判和簡政珍(Alan)的新作到底有什麼關聯?冰島是間旅館,是幅畫,是齣劇,是心的國度。冰島反對激情;冰島,這個融合恐懼、佔有慾、實用性、邏輯性、社會責任的產物,是為了那些企盼溫暖、親密、和簡樸人情味的人而生。

We may have condo palaces in Xiaobitan, BMWs, Xinyi District trinkets, factory slaves in PRC, escape homes for overseas kids in Taiwan Los Angeles, and a revolving selection of lovers.  But Iceland is the new Reality.
我們或許擁有小碧潭的豪華套房、BMW高級轎車、購自信義區的小飾品、中國廉價勞工、在洛杉磯台灣區為定居海外的孩子置的渡假屋、和任君挑選的情人。但冰島才是真正的「現實樣貌」。

Playwrights, filmmakers, painters, dancers, musicians, actors, writers, and sensitive creative people know and reveal this.  That’s why audiences prefer Hollywood fantasies.  Alan is one of these Artists.  Treat him and his blossoming awarenesses gently, because we need them.
一些敏銳有創意的人已經領會並揭發了這點,如劇作家、電影工作者、畫家、舞者、音樂家、演員、作家等。所以觀眾才會偏愛好萊塢式的幻想。簡政珍就是這樣的藝術家。請溫柔地對待他和他綻放出的思想,因為我們需要它。

     冰島:一種「心」的狀態

冰島和台灣都是島國。冰島有火山和融冰危機;台灣有汙染、貪汙、變化萬千的政治實境秀和兩岸問題。冰島覺得自己安全了,因為它正在游離荒謬的歐洲大陸;台灣覺得自己安全了,因為熱情的美國大陸派了有為青年來保護世界的供油和民主。

可悲的是,貪婪的西方資本主義早已毀滅了冰島,將冰島帶回維京時期;貪婪的東方資本主義也正扮演著鹽酸的角色,一點一滴地侵蝕台灣,將台灣丟入黑寡婦蜘蛛的死亡之網裡。

不過,冰島和台灣的人民,將會靠著自身的勇氣與溫暖,在經濟與文化被「閹割」的過程中存活下來,而在美國這個大熔爐,破產的美國人民也會安然度過「神聖阿美利堅帝國」的衰敗。

我為什麼要做這些諷刺?這跟陳建成(Alan)的新劇有什麼關係?「冰島」是一間旅館、一幅畫、一齣戲與一種心理狀態;「冰島」是「熱情」的相反詞;「冰島」是那些渴望溫暖、親密與「純粹善良」的人們,在追求這些渴望的過程中,心裡所產生的恐懼、佔有慾、現實、邏輯與社會責任。

我們或許有一間在小碧潭的套房;我們或許有BMW或信義區那些高級玩意兒;或許有一堆從中國逃來台灣投靠子女的工廠奴隸,因為台灣是他們的「洛杉磯」;或許有永遠找不到的命中註定。此時此刻,「冰島」代表了新的「現實」。

劇作家、電影人、畫家、舞者、音樂家、演員、作家和敏感的創作人知道並揭露這個事實,這也是為何大家不斷地從好萊塢的夢幻電影中尋找短暫的解脫;陳建成正是這類的藝術家之一,請善待建成和他剛萌芽的覺醒,因為,我們需要這些覺醒。
